Technological innovation of major semiconductor storage manufacturers!

Details

According to Korean media BusinessKorea, semiconductor storage giant Samsung Electronics has completed the research and development of 400-layer NAND technology and has begun to introduce production lines.

According to reports, Samsung Electronics has successfully completed the development of 400-layer NAND technology at its Semiconductor Research Institute and began transferring this advanced technology to the large-scale production line of Factory No. 1 in Pyeongtaek Park last month.

The industry believes that this breakthrough will put Samsung at the forefront of NAND flash memory technology and prepare to compete with other storage manufacturers.

Samsung Electronics plans to introduce its 1Tb capacity 400-layer stacked TLC NAND Flash flash memory in detail at the 2025 International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in February next year. As for mass production time, reports say that Samsung’s 400-layer NAND products will start in the second half of next year. However, industry insiders pointed out that if the production speed is accelerated, mass production may begin at the end of the second quarter.

Samsung has introduced "three-layer stacking" technology for 400-layer NAND. According to reports, the successful development of Samsung's 400-layer NAND Flash flash memory represents a major leap in NAND flash memory technology, which involves stacking memory cells in three layers. It also marks a major progress for Samsung Electronics in this field.

In addition to making significant progress in technology research and development, Samsung Electronics also plans to increase the production of its advanced memory product line in 2025. Including the installation of a new 9th generation (286-layer stack) NAND Flash memory production facility in Pyeongtaek Park, with a monthly production capacity of 30,000-40,000 wafers.

In addition, Samsung also plans to continue converting the 128-layer stacked (V6) NAND Flash memory production line into a 236-layer stacked (V8) NAND Flash memory product process at its Xi'an factory in China.

As we all know, Samsung is the world's largest NAND Flash brand manufacturer. The latest data from TrendForce, a global market research organization, shows that in the third quarter of this year, the global NAND Flash industry's overall revenue reached US$17.6 billion, of which Samsung, which ranked first, had revenue of US$6.2 billion.

TrendForce analyzed Samsung's third-quarter revenue and pointed out that as the performance of enterprise-class SSDs was continuously supported by demand in North America, shipments of mobile phone products declined. Samsung's third-quarter bit shipments fell by 5% quarter-on-quarter. However, its ASP increased from the previous quarter, so its revenue remained the same as in the second quarter.
